Position summary
The Avionics Technician performs maintenance, basic work and maintenance tasks on aircraft avionics systems and components in accordance with the approved maintenance program and uses technical data, including but not limited to manuals and technical drawings. Avionics technician duties include removal, disassembly, inspection, upkeep, disposal and packing of removed components and parts, servicing, repair, modification, reassembly, installation, continuity checks and support to the avionics systems technician.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate ground support equipment and hand and power tools while following tool control and foreign object debris (FOD) procedures.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area by using safe work practices and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Review and respond to built-in test equipment (BITE) results, troubleshoot and resolve avionics system defects/unavailability, including disassembly, replacement and reassembly, and support related systems such as disturbed system checks and avionics functional checks.
- Provide support for EMI/EMC tasks.
- Perform ramp duties including marshaling, parking, towing, fueling and defueling, servicing and pre- and post-flight inspections.
- Assist avionics systems technicians with required maintenance following flight tests.
- Perform airworthiness functions authorized by the Shop Certification Authority (SCA) and Product Conformity Authority (PCA).
- Travel and work as part of mobile repair teams, field teams and off-site work teams.
- Provide on-the-job training and technical supervision to other avionics technicians.
Requirements
- Graduate of a recognized aircraft maintenance program or an apprenticeship program, hold a valid Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT) license or be qualified as an avionics technician as a graduate of an equivalent basic military and/or civilian vocational training program from abroad.
- AMTs holding a Transport Canada (E) license or candidates holding an equivalent FAA/JAA license, eligible for a Transport Canada license, or experience as an Aircraft Certification Authority (ACA) and experience with major modifications and aircraft prototype ground test plans.
- Basic to advanced knowledge of aircraft avionics systems including, but not limited to, communication, navigation, radar, data management, instruments and electrical power distribution systems.
- Detailed knowledge of executing instructions, accessing and using the Wiring Information Management System (WIMS) and general standards for wiring practices.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation: technical manuals, drawings, technical data packages (TDP), work orders (WO), engineering service request instructions (RES) and associated data.
- Competent and qualified level for authorization of performance of maintenance (POM).
- Must meet requirements of the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CCGP), Secret II level security clearance through PSPC - Contract Security Program, and IRAC authorization from Transport Canada.
