SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the certification and/or inspection of aeronautical products entrusted to them and within their scope of competence
  • Perform the procedures contained in the maintenance control manual
  • Review orders to determine the type of test required, procedures to follow, and part acceptability criteria
  • Determine test equipment parameters based on metal type, thickness, distance from equipment, and related variables using standard formulas
  • Calibrate test equipment such as magnetic particle, X-ray, and ultrasonic contact machines according to standard settings by following manual instructions
  • Set up equipment to perform tests and conduct tests on parts following established procedures depending on the tests performed
  • Examine treated material surfaces during penetrant and magnetic particle tests to locate and identify cracks or other defects using fluorescent light
  • Evaluate test results against designated standards using knowledge of metals and test experience
  • Prepare reports describing results and conclusions
  • Within their field of competence, perform the duties of the NDT Team Lead in their absence
  • Perform any other tasks that may be assigned by the NDT Service Manager, NDT Supervisor, or NDT Team Lead

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Minimum of CGSB or NAS 410 training and successful completion of Level II certifications in four (4) NDT methods: Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Level II, Eddy Current (ET) Level II, Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT) Level II, Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) Level II
  • Quality assurance training is an asset
  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to use a wide range of tools and instruments
  • Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally
  • Good vision and color perception
  • Understanding of health and safety issues
  • Valid driver's license
  • Occasional travel required

EDUCATION:

  • Technical diploma from a recognized institution in aeronautics and/or non-destructive testing
